Chemical Standards eXchange
30 July 2010, Friday, 1.00pm to 5.15pm
Venue: Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay
Introduction The Chemical Standards eXchange is one of a series of seminars which showcases the various key developments in Standards that affect industry and businesses. This eXchange is organised by SPRING, together with the Chemical Standards Committee (CSC). The CSC is one of the eight Standards Committees under the industry-led Singapore Standards Council which advises SPRING Singapore, the national standards body, on the National Standardisation Programme. The CSC actively engages the chemical industry in the use of Singapore Standards (SS) as well as develops and promotes the use of chemical standards to help the chemical and chemical related industries to improve their competitiveness and safeguard public interest, workers’ safety and the environment. Through CSC and the National Standardisation Programme, the chemical industry in Singapore is updated on international standards developments. This Standards eXchange will showcase how the current and future work of the CSC impacts the chemical industry, in particular, the petrochemical, bunkering, paint and coating industries. The seminar will also provide an update on the adoption of the Globally Harmonisation System (GHS) in Singapore as well as environmental and sustainable initiatives for the chemical industry. Some of the future CSC work in the areas of land rejuvenation, water and waste management also address the recommendations laid out by the Government Economic Strategies Committee (ESC), which was set up to help Singapore build capabilities and maximise opportunities as a global city for sustained and inclusive growth. Standards will continue to play an important role for the chemical and chemical related industries as the industry position itself for future challenges and opportunities. The benefits are far-reaching, and Standards also help to facilitate trade and market access.
